A yurt is a portable, bent wood-framed dwelling structure traditionally used by Turkic nomads in the steppes of Central Asia.
We like to think we have thought of everything, but you do need to bring personal toiletries (apart from environmentally friendly body wash, shampoo, conditioner and hand soap, which are provided – so please use these and leave your own at home).
We supply a limited amount of wood – extra wood, firelighters and kindling can be bought at the farm shop at Sopley Lake main entrance.
You are surrounded by pick-your-own fruit and veg fields and you can also purchase seasonal produce at the farm shop. Otherwise, please bring anything you are going to eat and drink, including tea/coffee, sugar and milk. A 30-litre gas powered chiller is provided with each yurt, while the bell tents have a 120-litre fridge/freezer.
The cold water tap at the outdoor kitchen is mains water and therefore perfectly safe to drink.
All kitchenware and tableware are provided. Close by in the village of Bransgore, there is a mini-market, greengrocers, butchers, chemists and much more. Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and M&S are nearby in Christchurch.
We do provide torches and battery powered lanterns. However, if there is any chance of you arriving after dark, please bring a torch to help you initially locate the key box on the bathroom wall. Please note there is no reception – it is self check-in with a 24-hour hotline if required.
The bell tents have solar power lighting and phone chargers. The yurts do not. If you need to charge your phone and you are coming by car, please bring a car phone charger. If you are not coming by car, we suggest bringing a power pack.
Low impact is our aim on the environment, neighbours and area. We are, however, totally off grid and, due to the nature of the surrounding trees, have limited opportunity for solar power. We offer our guests the chance to recycle with dry mix and glass recycling bins located beside the guest entrance to the lake.
No. We provide towels and bedding for the numbers booked.
Detailed directions will be given to you in your yurt camp guide, which you can download once you have paid your deposit. Access codes can be gained from the same area once you have paid for your stay in full. They are sent via email and SMS. There are also instructions on where to find us on our website.
Your yurts will be ready for you at 3:30pm on the day of your arrival. Please check out by 10:30am on the day of your departure.
All our pitches have outdoor kitchens, with kitchenware and tableware provided.
Our yurts are equipped with double gas rings and a charcoal BBQ. 5 kg of charcoal is provided ready for your use, with more charcoal available from the Sopley Lake farm shop.
Our bell tents are equipped with a commercial gas BBQ and wood-fired pizza oven. Wood is provided for your use.
We hate to share. Everything is there for your private use.
We’re very dog-friendly and always welcome well behaved dogs – and they can bring their owners too! Please clean up after your dog, respect other campers, and keep your dog under control.
Close enough, but not too close! See the aerial view and the scale on the bottom left hand corner.
Oh yes. You are 30 minutes from Southampton or Bournemouth. You are five minutes from the New Forest National Park. You are 15 minutes from the beach. You can sail, fish, fly, cycle, shoot, run, ride, canter, gallop, swim, sail, paddle or just chill round the campfire.
Please see our things to do page.
Yes. Tickets can be obtained from the farm shop as you enter Sopley Lake – just tell them you are staying with us. The lake itself is approximately 10 acres in total with depths of up to 10 feet. It contains a good head of carp (to 30lb), bream and roach. It also has quite a few golden orfe.
Sadly, swimming and water sports are not available on the lake for safety reasons. But please check out our things to do page for water sports alternatives and nearby beaches.
Most certainly. Weddings are available at the lake – we can put you in touch with our wedding coordinator.
